No amount of training could have prepared Maxwell Jennings for his first undercover assignment with the Feds. Maxwell had known since he was a child, that he wanted to be an undercover agent. What he hadn’t realized was how hard it would be to keep his personal life separate from his professional life and still be effective.

After graduating from the FBI’s Academy, his first undercover assignment was fairly straight forward, or so he thought. He was hired as a bartender in one if New York’s top night spots. The mission was to learn all he could about “the backroom” activity. The customers, the patrons, and who was involved.

The night club was one of several in the country who was suspected of filtering clients through the front door and out the backdoor, to a waiting limo, which provide transportation to an undisclosed location. Mostly to meet up with young girls from third world countries who provided select services.

Classified information on the case was forwarded to Maxwell for review. It was an odd case, because one of the night club’s very own customers had called the FBI Hotline, to report that a young girl from his country was being used in an elaborate illegal scheme.

When the Bureau looked into the matter, a young girl fitting the description provided, had indeed disappeared, without a trace, from her country 19 months prior. For the first time, they had inside information which lead them to this particular night spot in New York City.

Maxwell’s undercover name was to be Bennie Sharpton. Bennie’s background was similar to his own background and would have been a class mate of the real Maxwell Jennings.

Maxwell’s cover was similar to his real background, born on Chicago’s South Side, seven sisters and brothers, college on a sport’s scholarship, trouble with the law in his junior year, dropped out of college. Not a problem for Maxwell, aka Bennie, who had tested at the top of all his classes. Six feet two inches, 240 pounds of pure muscle, and a charming smile, was Bennie’s description, on the streets and off.

It was Maxwell’s, aka Bennie’s second week on the job, when he meet Eva Gordon, heiress to the Magnetta Family fortune. Nothing in his training prepared him for Eva Gordon.

Ms. Gordon and her man friend, Joe came into the club almost every Saturday evening around eight o’clock. Joe would always order a number from “the backroom” menu, and then disappear for 2 to 3 hours out the backdoor of the club.

Eva would always sit on the bar stool and visit with Maxwell, aka Bennie, until Joe returned.

After a couple of months, Maxwell noticed that he was looking forward to Eva’s Saturday night visits. And it became increasingly obvious, that she too enjoyed her visit with Bennie. Eva was suppose to be nothing more than an informant with direct information about “the backroom”

As with any informant, Maxwell, ran a check on the famous, rich and beautiful Ms Eva Gordon, everything checked out, she was indeed who she said she was and more!

Maxwell’s handler had strongly suggested that he take it really slow with the assignment and not to push or ask any “real” questions. In fact before Bennie was hired, it was made clear that he was only to handle the transactions from the pre-paid credit cards, for “the backroom” menu and never ask questions.

In time, Eva and Maxwell, aka Bennie, had a real connection, without the benefit of ever touching or seeing one another outside the club. They each had done their homework, on the other, however, Eva’s homework would prove to be much more thorough.

As fate would have it, Maxwell’s birthday fell on a Saturday. The staff provided a cake and the club provide a couple drinks on the house. Eva was especially happy that she could be a part of the birthday celebration.

After the staff sung happy birthday, Eva motioned for Bennie to come closer. She than reached for Maxwell’s tie and gently pulled his face close to hers. Their lips touched and for a moment, they were in a world of their own.
